A very spoiled family bulldog learned to become the protective older brother when the family brought home their babies. The bulldog, named Gunnar, was used to being the only “child.” But the dog showed a human side to his personality when he fell in love with and cared for his new human brothers.
If it’s raining outside, Gunnar refuses to go for a walk. His owners will pull on his leash, but the bulldog will just lie there, unfazed. Gunnar will also hold his urine all night, to avoid having to go outside to relieve himself. The spoiled bulldog is also a very smart dog. Gunnar was the first one in the family to realize his owner, Samantha, was expecting. Samantha says Gunnar also has a keen ability to read emotions.
When Samantha was pregnant, Gunnar would lay on her tummy and wait for the baby to kick him. When both Wyatt and Lachlan were brought home from the hospital, Gunnar instinctively knew they were part of the family. The bulldog understood that Wyatt and Lachlan were babies, and taught them both to go up the stairs.
If Samantha left the baby in the swing while she went into the kitchen, Gunnar would sit next to the baby and watch over him while Samantha cooked. Gunnar loves Wyatt and Lachlan and wants to participate in everything they do. If one of the boys jumps up onto his father’s lap, the bulldog wants a turn as well.
Samantha said Gunnar and Wyatt have a very special bond. They have conversations together and find lots of activities to do.
One of Gunnar’s favorite things to do is go swimming. Because of his weight, the bulldog has to wear a life vest while swimming. Gunnar also loves swings, blankets, fireplaces, and sitting on laps. The family considers Gunner to be the older brother and refer to him as one of the boys!
