Most stray dogs are scared of people. It may be because they experienced abuse in the past. However, most dogs do learn to trust humans again when they are treated with love and care. While some dogs learn to trust humans again in no time at all, others can take time.
Everglades Rescue heard about a stray pit bull wandering the streets. They wasted no time to look for the pit bull and make a rescue attempt. They were informed that the pit bull was terrified of people and would do anything to avoid them. They soon found how scared the pit bull was with humans as it took them weeks to locate and rescue the dog.
Thankfully, people informed the rescue volunteers on where the stray dog was last seen. The volunteers set up a humane trap for the scared dog and waited. Sure enough, Senna appeared and investigated the cage. It was pouring rain, and the rescuers had to keep out of the dog’s sight to avoid scaring her away.
Once the dog went inside the cage, it closed, trapping the frightened dog. The rescuers worked fast and soon carried the cage with the dog inside to their car. They soon found that the dog’s fear wasn’t the usual kind of fear that most stray dogs had with humans.
When they arrived at the rescue shelter, they named the dog Senna, and they also discovered how fearful Senna was with humans. She was so frightened that Senna wouldn’t make eye contact with her rescuers, and she was completely shut down.
Senna refused to walk, and she had to be carried around whenever she needed to be taken outside to relieve herself. The volunteers worked hard to help Senna overcome her fear of humans. They know that inside that fearful exterior, Senna had a lot of love to give.
The rescue volunteers gave Senna special attention. Every day, the volunteers made sure that Senna felt safe, and she’s surrounded by people who would never hurt her. Little by little, Senna started to learn to trust humans again.
One day, when the volunteers carried Senna outside, she started to walk around. It may not be much, but in Senna’s case, this was real progress. Before, she just relieved herself and lay down on the grass and refused to move. Senna started walking slowly and cautiously around the yard.
Then, something happened that made Senna’s caregiver so happy. For the first time during her stay in the shelter, Senna made eye contact with her caregiver. She seemed to tell the human that she trusts her. When Senna’s caregiver put her face in front of Senna’s, Senna kissed her.
The volunteers aren’t sure why Senna was so afraid of humans. However, thanks to the volunteers who worked very hard to show Senna what love is, she started becoming a dog again. Here’s a heartwarming video showing Senna’s progress, which will surely touch your heart.
