A pit bull named Mama Pickles is a social media darling now, but she didn’t always lead a charmed life. Animal control officers found her wandering the streets, heavily pregnant.
The officers exhausted every means to find Mama Pickles’s owners. Sadly, they did not want to care for the pit bull anymore and relinquished ownership to the shelter.
Seeing as Mama Pickles needed more care and medical attention than the shelter could offer, they contacted Pits & Giggle Rescue. The organization specializes in caring for pregnant and nursing bully dogs before and after they give birth.
Pits & Giggles makes sure that both mama dog and all her pups are spayed and neutered before putting them up for adoption. Moreover, for every rescue, the organization sponsors sterilization surgery for one canine in the community.
Mama Pickles turned out to be an affectionate and friendly pooch who loved being around humans. Her pregnant belly did not stop her from jumping on Pits & Giggles volunteers and asking for pats and scratches from them!
The organization saw this as the perfect opportunity to hold a maternity photoshoot, so they contacted volunteer Lauren Casteen Sykes. Lauren and her husband run Enchanted Hills Photography, and she’s the go-to photographer of Pits & Giggles for their rescues.
Mama Pickles, of course, had no idea what was happening on the day of the shoot. All she knew was that she loved all the attention the volunteers were giving her. The pittie couldn’t sit still, and she kept knocking her flower crown and bows askew in her excitement.
However, Lauren was able to take the most beautiful pictures of the mama pooch. Happiness radiated from the pittie’s eyes and smile.
Not too long afterward, Mama Pickles bore eight adorable puppies, and Lauren was there to take another set of photos of the new family. Everyone cooed over how picture-perfect the proud mom and her babies were.
Pits & Giggles says that Mama Pickles’s former owners used her for breeding several times and then discarded her. However, the eight pups will be her last litter, and they’re making sure she and her offspring will go to suitable homes where they’ll be loved and cherished.
