Jason Parker has a Black Labrador named Gunnar. Due to the excellent rapport they built, Jason and Gunnar became the best of friends. But one event would test their friendship. Gunnar got hit by a truck in 2014, which left the dog crippled for good. Jason, though, never abandoned Gunnar in this ordeal. He likewise provided the pooch with a wheelchair to help Gunnar with walking.
According to Jason, the accident left Gunnar with two broken vertebrae. The doctors who checked on the dog said that there is a 50/50 chance to regain the dog’s ability. But after spending over $7,000 in therapies, medications, and surgeries, Gunnar’s condition still did not improve.
Although he does not want to give up on the pooch, it was Jason’s wife who told him to stop. His wife likewise suggested providing the pooch with a wheelchair to help the dog with walking. The couple spent $600 for the dog’s wheelchair.
At first, Gunnar struggled in using the wheelchair. Jason, though, patiently thought the pooch on how to use it. The dog eventually learned and used it in his favor. Whenever they go out, Gunnar would often use his wheelchair to play with other dogs. Even with his disability, Gunnar never got disheartened and instead used his disability as an inspiration.
Jason, for his part, is very supportive of his dog. He would join the dog with his wheelchair venture, may it be outside their house or at the park.
When he saw the positive effects of the wheelchair to Gunnar, Jason decided to found a non-profit organization that would provide the same wheelchair to other pets in need. Jason eventually named the foundation to Gunnar, the Gunnar’s Wheels Foundation. According to its official Facebook page, the foundation has already helped over 200 dogs and other animals like cats, pigs, and rabbits.
Huge thank you goes out to Super Scooty for raising $455 For the purchase of wheelchairs!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
