Whenever dogs see squirrels, we know that they will try and chase them. We would also see dogs barking up a tree nonstop whenever they see a squirrel. So, we can assume that these two animal species won’t be able to coexist peacefully in one house.
However, a dog named Pongo made friends with a baby squirrel and even made the squirrel a part of the family. It all started when a baby squirrel fell from a tree. Pongo barked nonstop. Pongo’s mom, Jan, noticed that Pongo kept staring back at her.
Whenever Jan asked Pongo what’s going on, Pongo would look at her and bark again. Jan decided to see what’s going on with her dog for herself. When she looked down, she saw a baby squirrel that appeared injured. As soon as Jan picked up the baby squirrel, Pongo stopped barking. Pongo knew the tiny creature is now in safe hands.
The baby squirrel’s mom was nowhere to be seen, and Jan also noticed that Pongo was anxious about the well-being of the squirrel. Jan also saw that the baby squirrel was born with a disability. It was partially blind. This meant that the squirrel wouldn’t be able to survive if it was released back into the wild.
Jan decided to adopt the squirrel, and she named him Quasimodo or Quasi for short. Pongo grew fond of Quasi and seemed he knew that the tiny squirrel is unique. Pongo was protective and gentle of his new baby brother. It didn’t take long for both Quasi and Pongo to bond.
Pongo acts like Quasi’s big brother. Pongo is always there looking out for Quasi. He even tries to get his cat siblings away from Quasi.
Quasi grew up to be very energetic and playful. He would always be seen with his big brother, Pongo. Quasi also has a sense of humor where he would try to bury nuts under Pongo’s fur. Here’s a cute video of how Pongo made Quasi a part of his family.
